An introduction to the Jewish and Christian scriptures, the history of Christianity, and the way these texts and traditions challenge, and are challenged by, the contemporary world.

Dr. Nicole Reibe is a historical theologian who specializes in medieval theology, disability theology, and feminist theology.
Introduction to Sociology (SC 100)
Students learn the fundamentals of sociological inquiry both as a social science focused on the study of human organization, and as an art of critiquing various modalities of human organization. This course introduces students to the history of the discipline, primary theories of social order and social change, and the methods used by sociologists to answer salient sociological questions. Focused as it is on primary challenges facing the social world, this class provides an opportunity for students to develop an appreciation for history, philosophy, politics, economics, and the liberal arts in general, while learning to think scientifically and systematically about the social world, and the social construction of the individual within the social world. Required for all sociology majors and minors. Fulfills social science core.

Mentor biography
Tim Cherney is the Associate Director of Student Life for Community Development & LGBTQPIA+ Initiatives. In this role, he oversees residential social and educational programs that foster a welcoming and inclusive living environment for all students. Tim is specifically charged with increasing the sense of belonging amongst LGBTQPIA+ students in the residence halls.
Tim joined the Loyola Student Life team in 2007 as a live-in Assistant Director within the residence halls and feels blessed to have had the opportunity to continue his career at a place that has become his professional and personal home.
Originally from outside Cleveland, Ohio, Tim received his M.S. in Student Affairs in Higher Education from Colorado State University, and his B.A. in English from John Carroll University in Cleveland. It was at JCU that Tim first experienced cura personalis, and his love for Jesuit education has remained strong since.

For students considering a major in the Sellinger School of Business, Sociology, Global Studies, Economics or Psychology, Sociology will count as an elective. TH 201 fulfill one of the Theology core requirements for all students.
