Newest Acquisitions 

Spirited Away – This Japanese film from 2002 was just added to the LLC catalogue this fall. “When her parents undergo a mysterious transformation, Chihiro must fend for herself as she encounters strange spirits, assorted creatures and a grumpy sorceress who seeks to prevent her from returning to the human world. 10-year-old Chihiro and her parents stumble upon a seemingly abandoned amusement park.”

Kim Ji-Young Born 1982 – This 2016 Korean film is based on a novel by Cho Nam-Joo.“The film centers around homemaker Kim Ji Young (Jung Yoo Mi) and her ordinary life as a wife and mother in her thirties. Though she gave up a lot of things in her life for her family, she still believes that it's worth sacrificing for her loving husband and daughter. Suffering from depression, she starts to behave like her mother, and looks back on her past. As her situation gets worse, her husband Jung Dae Hyun (Gong Yoo) encourages her to seek help from a psychologist, and Ji Young begins to tell her life story as a woman in Korea.”

Yomeddine – "Beshay - a man cured of leprosy - has never left the leper colony in the Egyptian desert where he has lived since childhood. Following the death of his wife, he finally decides to go in search of his roots. With his meager possessions strapped to a donkey cart, he sets out. Quickly joined by Obama, the Nubian orphan he has taken under his wing, Beshay will cross Egypt and confront the world with all its sorrows, all its hardships and its moments of grace, in his quest fro a family, a place to belong, a little humanity..."

A Voix Haute - This 2017 French film has recently been added to the LLC catalog. "Dans le cadre du concours Eloquentia organisé par leur Université, des étudiants de Saint-Denis apprennent à s’exprimer par le biais du plaidoyer mais aussi du théâtre, de la poésie et du chant. L’art de la rhétorique s’ouvre à eux, et avec lui celui de l’écoute, de l’affirmation de ses opinions et de la confiance en soi. Le portrait d’une jeunesse déterminée à prendre sa place et à se faire entendre, loin des préjugés sur la banlieue."
