The Counseling Center maintains discretion to determine if remote counseling services are an appropriate level/mode of care on a case-by-case basis. Remote counseling may not be appropriate, or the best choice of service for reasons including, but not limited to: heightened risk of harm to oneself or others; lack of access to, or difficulty with, communications technology; significant communications service disruptions; or need for more intensive services.
State laws govern the provision of teletherapy services. Treatment options and recommendations vary based on where an individual student resides due to differences in licensing guidelines for providing psychotherapy services. Regardless of location, counselors can provide supportive care services, support groups, and workshops, as well as connect students with providers and resources local to them. All students are encouraged to contact the Counseling Center to speak with a counselor about their specific needs.
