Supporting the Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship

Student writing on post-it, Baltimore skyline at Inner Harbor, and group of innovation fellows

Loyola University Maryland is committed to supporting and growing a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem for our school and our city. The Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (CI&E) is collaborating with other leading Baltimore institutions to increase access to capital and seed the creation of goods, services, and ideas with commercial value to generate wealth in underserved neighborhoods.

The CI&E elevates and enhances the existing innovation ecosystem at Loyola. It supports student innovators and other internal constituents, and also build bridges externally, to provide student and faculty expertise and other resources to local Baltimore community members to start, scale, and grow their own businesses and social ventures.

The CI&E – under the leadership of a director and entrepreneur-in-residence – is comprised of internal and external initiatives working in synergy to produce innovations that have positive social and economic impacts on the University and the neighborhoods it seeks to stimulate. The four initiatives are:

  • The entrepreneurial ecosystem organizes and systematizes knowledge and networks for the pipeline of entrepreneurs that the CI&E supports in Baltimore.
  • Innovation Station and Lange Innovation Lounge are makerspace resources for rapid prototyping and testing that encourages and facilitate interdisciplinary and creative projects among students and faculty.
  • The academic minor in innovation & entrepreneurship is an interdisciplinary program that brings together courses from eleven departments across the University to allow students to learn social entrepreneurship, creative entrepreneurship, and tech ventures in the sciences or engineering.
  • The Baltipreneurs Accelerator invests in and develops a cohort of entrepreneurs who represent a mix of community and Loyola-led ventures. Through the Baltipreneurs Accelerator, the CI&E provides mentorship, training, networking opportunities, education, and funding through a competitive selection process.

Loyola Angels

Loyola Angels is a yearlong interdisciplinary undergraduate learning opportunity that will serve as a vehicle for the CI&E (CI&E) and our investors to support job and wealth creation in Baltimore. It will provide student innovators with angel investment experience while serving as a funding vehicle for local underserved entrepreneurs, especially Baltimore-based minority and female-owned businesses.

We are seeking contributions to launch the Loyola Angels charitable fund. The new courses in the yearlong program will launch in the academic year 2022-23, with the first investment recommendations to be made by student angel investors in spring 2023. Loyola Angels will specifically provide capital for the investments in Maryland ventures.
