Loyola’s Doctorate of Clinical Psychology program is the 8th highest ranked Psy.D. program by US News & World Report ranking of  Best Psychology Schools and the #122 highest overall ranked psychology program of the 331 programs that were ranked.

The U.S. News ranking includes both Ph.D. and Psy.D. doctoral programs that are accredited by the American Psychological Association. The majority of the programs ranked are Ph.D. programs, a small portion of the ranked programs, including Loyola University Maryland's, are Psy.D. programs. While both Ph.D. and Psy.D. programs are similar, there are some distinctions. The primary difference between Ph.D. program and Psy.D. programs is the emphasis placed on training–Ph.D. programs put a focus on research, whereas Psy.D. programs place an emphasis on clinical practice.

"In psychology, a school was listed once on the survey even if it grants a doctoral degree in psychology in multiple departments. Programs in clinical psychology are ranked separately in the health section of the Best Graduate Schools rankings.

There were 331 psychology programs surveyed, with a response rate of 21.3%. There were 139 economics programs surveyed with a response rate of 46.4%.

Schools with social sciences and humanities doctoral programs whose overall rankings are based solely on a 5-point peer assessment score are ranked from highest to lowest based on that peer assessment score."
