Julia Mulry

  • Class Year2020

  • DegreeB.A. Communication

Julia, from Pleasantville, N.Y., arrived at Loyola as a first-year student with many interests, but she wasn’t sure what she wanted to pursue. After finding the communication department, she knew it was the right major for her. She decided to specialize in digital media. During her four years at Loyola, the communication department offered so much more than a field of study. “My main sense of belonging at Loyola came from the communication department,” she says. “I worked with amazing professors and peers, and I discovered who I was through the courses I took.” Julia also joined student clubs to get more involved with the major beyond the classroom. She graduated as president of the Public Relations Student Society of America and as an active member of Lambda Pi Eta, the National Communications Honor Society. By getting involved, she felt like she was making the most out of her degree. “I can't emphasize enough just how wonderful my experience at Loyola was and how much it enriched my life as a whole.” Today Julia lives in Baltimore and works as a digital product content analyst for McCormick and Company. “My job is to make sure all of the content comes together, so I get to be a project manager and work with diverse clients and different people to create infographics and coordinate photoshoots.”

If there’s one thing I could say to students, it would be: don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. A lot of what you get out of the Loyola experience comes down to what you give. If you’re willing to go the extra mile in your classes, stop into your professors’ office hours, and join an extra club... you’re going to reap the benefits.
