George McManus III
Owner of J.J. McDonnell, the premier wholesale seafood distributor of Maryland, D.C., and Northern Virginia, George began driving delivery trucks for the company as a summer job. After a year at Randolph-Macon College, the Baltimore native worked his way through Loyola, earned a business degree, and went to work for the local seafood distributor full time. In 1986, George purchased the company—which at the time had eight employees and four delivery trucks—from its owner. Today J.J. McDonnell has more than 100 employees and nearly 25 trucks on the road and is a regional market leader in retail and restaurant seafood distribution.
